Mamiraua Fishing Communities

BRAZIL

Experience Details

Located in the stunning Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve, about 500 km from Manaus, the Mamirauá Project invites you to experience the thrill of fishing in one of the most pristine and wild regions of the Brazilian Amazon.

Renowned for its rich biodiversity, the reserve is a true paradise for sport fishing enthusiasts.

Its vast, tranquil lakes are home to an impressive abundance of iconic species, such as the agile arowana, the explosive peacock bass, the robust tambaqui, and the majestic giants arapaima gigas (pirarucus), which can reach spectacular sizes and challenge even the most seasoned anglers

But this project is more than just adventure: it leverages sport fishing and ecotourism as tools to transform the lives of local communities. By providing a sustainable source of income year-round, it offers a viable alternative to traditional practices, such as net fishing and harpooning, while helping preserve the region's precious natural resources.

Exploring Mamirauá is more than fishing; it’s about diving into a one-of-a-kind experience where every catch brings the excitement of the challenge and the satisfaction of contributing to the preservation of one of the planet's most vital ecosystems.
